Monastery of Ossios David
North Euboia

21km north of Limni and 16km from Rovies on the slopes of Kavalaris hill at an altitude of 927m, you will find the male Monastery of Ossios David, with its monk brotherhood.  The history dates back at least 500 years when the monastery was founded by ’Blessed‘ David. During the Greek revolution of 1821, it was destroyed by the Turkish, because the monks were helping in the fight for freedom, and rebuilt in 1877. The bones of Blessed David are kept within the monastery along with his incense burner, his stole and several other relics. Close to the monastery is the cave he lived sought refuge in.  In the basement there is a small chapel with holy paintings from the 17th century. The monastery celebrates on the 6th August and the 1st November.
